BARRINGTON, Ill. – The second round of the Illinois Junior Golf Association’s Illinois State Junior Amateur came to a close Wednesday with Connor Prassas (2017) of Winnetka, Ill., moving into the top spot on the leaderboard with an even-par 142 two-day total heading into the final round. The cut was made to the top 50 players and ties, players finishing the two-days at 17-over-par or better will move on to the final round.

The Illinois State Junior Amateur (ISJA) is a 54 hole, stroke play event, with a cut after 36 holes to the top 50 and ties. The field, made up of male junior golfers from Illinois ages 12-18, played the first round on the par 71 course from 6,587 yards.

The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.

Prassas, who took first place at his qualifier, carded a second round 2-under-par 69, which included an eagle and three birdies, to move into the top spot on the leaderboard. This is the 2017 grad’s third appearance at ISJA but his first time making the cut.

Two strokes back are Justin Choi (2017) of Northfield, Ill., and Luke Armbrust (2018) of Wheaton, Ill., with a two-day total of 2-over-par 144. Currently in a three-way tie for fourth, with a tournament total of 4-over-par 146, are David Perkins (2016) of East Peoria, Ill., Kevin Paek (2017) of Glenview, Ill., and Pete Kuhl (2016) of Morton, Ill. Sitting in seventh, with a two-day total of 6-over-par 148, are Chip Savarie (2018) of Winnetka, Ill., and Marcus Smith (2020) of Rockford, Ill.

Rounding out the top 10 are Tyler Isenhart (2019) of Geneva, Ill., Michael Tanaka (2018) of Wilmette, Ill., and Rob Wuethrich (2017) of Bloomington, Ill., who each carded a tournament total of 7-over-par 148.

The final round of the 47th ISJA will commence Thursday at 8 a.m. at Makray Memorial Golf Club.
