BLOOMINTON, ILL. – The second round of the Championship at the Den came to a close this evening for the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour. Adam Norwood (2016) of Rockton, Ill., rose to the top of the leaderboard after a one-under-par round of 71 for a two-day total of 148.
The Championship at the Den is a 54-hole stroke play competition featuring 99 boy junior golfers representing Illinois, Indiana and Iowa. This tournament featured the par-72 Den at Fox Creek golf course. The Boys Division played from 6,717 yards.
Norwood’s second round consisted of four birdies which helped him rise from his previous 15th place position.
After the second round there is currently a three-way tie for the runner-up position between Michael Mattas (2016) of Streamwood, Ill., Liam Warner (2016) of Barrington, Ill., and Michael Adler (2017) of Winnetka, Ill., with a total score of 149.
“The wind played a major role today during the round but I was thrilled to see some low scores,” said senior director Stephanie Schwartz. “It looks as though the wind will pick up tomorrow but overall the weather seems promising and I am excited to see how our players close the championship”.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
