GENEVA, Ill. – The Illinois Junior Golf Association in conjunction with the Chicago District Golf Association concluded the second round of the IJGA-CDGA Junior Amateur Friday morning after play was suspended due to heavy rainfall the caused the course to become unplayable. In the Boys Division, the cut was made to the top 30 and ties following the completion of the second round early Friday Morning and the final round will begin at 11 a.m. off No. 1 at Mill Creek GC. In the Girls Division, Lauren Nay (2018) of Naperville, Ill., was named champion.
The IJGA-CDGA Junior Amateur is played at par 71 Mill Creek GC in Geneva, Ill. The Boys Division plays this 54-hole stroke play event from 6,300 yard with a cut to the low 30 and ties for the final round. The Girls Division plays this as a 36-hole stroke play event from 5,260 yards.
In the Boys Division, Matthew Wingren (2017) of Hinsdale, Ill., holds top spot on the leaderboard heading into the final round with a 1-under-par 141 two-day total.
Tied for second are Devin Johnson (2017) of Geneva, Ill., and Gabe Larson (2019) of Hinsdale, Ill., who are each sitting at even-par 142. In a six-way tie for fourth, just two shots back from the leader at 1-over-par 143, are Tyler Isenhart (2019) of Geneva, Ill., Kevin Nelson (2017) of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Payton Kim (2016) of Palatine, Ill., Patrick Akaniroj (2018) of Willow Springs, Ill., Spencer Monroe (2017) of Geneva, Ill., and Jason Folker (2017) of Lake Forest, Ill.
In the Girls Division, Nay finished the final round with an impressive 3-under-par 68 to move her tournament total to 1-over-par 143 to take home top honors.
Isabella Abdullah (2017) of Hinsdale, Ill., finished the tournament in second with an 8-over-par 150 tournament total. Rounding out the top-3 was Emma Carpenter (2019) of DeKalb, Ill., who finished the tournament at 12-over-par 154.
The final round for the Boys Division will begin Friday at 11 a.m. off No. 1 at Mill Creek GC.
