DEERFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Junior Golf Association’s Players Challenge #3 at Deerfield GC concluded Tuesday after two rounds of competitive golf. Jason Folker (2017) of Lake Forest, Ill., took home top honors in the Boys Division after carding an impressive 6-under-par 138 two-day total. In the Girls Division, Daphne Chao (2020) of Columbus, Ohio, carded a 3-under-par 141 two-day total to take champion honors.
Player’s Challenge #3 at Deerfield GC is a 36-hole, stroke play competition featuring 109 junior golfers. The Boys Division played the par-72 Deerfield GC from 6,491 yards, while the Girls Division played from 5,403 yards.
The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.
In the Boys Division, Folker played the back nine 5-under-par in the final round en route to his final round 4-under-par 68. This is his second Players Challenge victory in 2016, his first coming at the Players Challenge #2 at Pheasant Run Resort.
Dominic Scaletta (2020) of Inverness, Ill., came in runner-up with a two-day total of 3-under-par 141. In a tie for third place, with a tournament total of 4-over-par 148, was Joe Reilly (2018) of Clarendon Hills, Ill., and James Dvorak (2017) of Riverwoods, Ill. Rounding out the top 5 was Evan Myers (2019) of Northbrook, Ill., who carded a 7-over-par 151 two-day total.
In the Girls Division, Chao carded nine birdies during the two rounds. This was Chao’s first IJGA event.
Coming in runner-up was Josie Kurosky (2016) of Elgin, Ill., with an impressive 4-under-par 68 final round moving her tournament total to 1-under-par 143. Rounding out the top 3 is Grace Curran (2019) of New Lenox, Ill., with a two-day total of 1-over-par 145.
The next Players Challenge is scheduled for July 21-22, at Highland Park CC in Highland Park, Ill. This event also serves as a local Junior PGA Championship Qualifier.
