LEMONT, Ill. – Illinois Junior Golf Association alumnus Brian Bullington—a Frankford, Ill., native—has received a sponsor exemption into the John Deere Classic. Bullington, who earned his tour card and turned to the PGA tour Latinomerica for his rookie season, was not the only IJGA alumni with big news this week, two former IJGA players made the cut at the Western Amateur and one current/one past IJGA member made the cut into the match play rounds at the US Women’s Amateur.
Bullington is a 2015 Iowa graduate who made is Latin Tour debut in February at the Colombia Open, where he finished tied for 44th. He went on to make every spring event, playing tournaments in Colombia, Panama, Guatemala, Honduras, the Dominican Republic and Mexico. Bullington qualified for the Web.com Tour’s Rust-Oleum Championship earlier this month at Ivanhoe Golf Club and made the cut, finishing tied for 56th at 1-over-par.
At the 114th Western Amateur Championship hosted at Knollwood Club, IJGA alumni Doug Ghim and Nick Hardy both made the cut. The Western Am final round will be played on August 5, 2016. Other notable alumni at the Western Am were David Cooke, Patrick Flavin, and Tee-K Kelly.
At the US Women’s Amateur, Lauren Beaudreau and Bing Singhsumalee both made the cut into the match play rounds. Beaudreau was eliminated in the Round of 64 by Dylan Kim 8&7. Singhsumalee defeated Gina Kim 2&1 in the Round of 64, but then fell to Andrea Lee 5&4 in the Round of 32.
