MARENGO, Ill. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s 2016 summer season came to a close Tuesday after two rounds of competitive golf at the Blackstone Classic. In the Boys Division, Burke Barsamian (2016) of Barrington Hills, Ill., carded a 1-over-par 145 tournament total to take champion honors. In the Girls Division, Louise McCulloch (2016) of Wilmette, Ill., carded a 2-over-par 144 tournament total to take the top spot on the leaderboard.
The Blackstone Classic was a 36 hole, stroke play event contested at the Blackstone Golf Course. The Boys Division played the course as a par 72 from 6,428 yards. The Girls Division played the course as a par 71 from 5,617 yards.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
Barsamian, who is headed to the University of Rhode Island, played the back nine 3-under-par to hold on to his first-round lead. This is Barsamian’s third MAJGT victory.
Coming in runner-up was Henry Knez (2017) of Northbrook, Ill., who carded a tournament total of 5-over-par 149. In third was Kevin Nelson (2017) of Glen Ellyn, Ill., who carded a 6-over-par two-day total. Rounding out the top 5 were J.P. Anderson (2018) of Algonquin, Ill., and Blake Wisdom (2019) of Lake Geneva, Wis., who each carded a 7-over-par 151.
In the Girls Division, McCulloch carded six birdies and seven pars en route to her first MAJGT victory. She will be attending Northwestern University this fall.
Reese Wilson (2021) of Chicago, Ill., carded a 5-over-par 147 tournament total to take second. Rounding out the top 3 was Emily Carnes (2016) of Arlington Heights, Ill., who finished the tournament at 7-over-par 149.
The MAJGT will take a short break before heading to Minnesota August 27-28 for the Minnesota Open.
