LEMONT, Ill. – Illinois Junior Golf Association members competed over the weekend at a local qualifier for the 2017 Drive, Chip & Putt Championship held at Medinah CC. Two members won their respective division which means that they will be headed to Augusta in April to compete against junior golfers from across the country.
Conducted in partnership between the Masters Tournament, the PGA of America and the United States Golf Association (USGA), the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship is a free, nationwide youth golf development program open to boys and girls, ages 7-15, in four age categories.
Lisa Copeland of Naperville, Ill., qualified in the Girls 7-9 Division after scoring 84 points and taking the top spot on the leaderboard in her division. Also qualifying, in the Girls 10-11 Division, was IJGA member Chelsea She of Buffalo Grove, Ill., who finished the event with 95 points.
Emily Duan of Buffalo Grove, Ill., carded a total of 106 points to earn an alternate position in the Girls 12-13 Division. In the Girls 14-15 Division, Kait Natividad of Yorkville, Ill., also earned an alternate position after finishing the event with 113 points.
In the Boys 7-9 Division, Kieran Low of Evanston, Ill., earned an alternate spot after carding 108 points. Finishing the event with 101 points, Grant Roscich of Glen Ellyn, Ill., earned an alternate spot in the Boys 10-11 Division.
Jason Gordon of Chicago, Ill., carded 111 points to earn an alternate position in the Boys 12-13 Division.
