MUNDELEIN – Ill. – The Illinois Junior Golf Association’s Youth Development Program’s 2018 season kicked off last weekend at the YDP Season Opener @ Countryside. Four champions were named after two round of competitive golf.
The YDP Season Opener @ Countryside GC was a 36-hole, Stroke Play competition contested on May 5-6, at Countryside GC – Traditional Course. The field featured junior golfers ages 10-13 from Illinois and Wisconsin. The Boys 12-13 Division played the par 72 from 5,803 yards, while the Boys 10-11 Division played from 5,227 yards. The Girls 12-13 Division played the par 72 course from 5,227 yards, while the Girls 10-11 Division played from 4,458 yards.
The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.
In the Boys 12-13 Division, Jason Gordon (2023) of Northbrook, Ill., took home top honors after carding a final round of 2-under-par 70, moving his tournament total to an even-par 144. Gordon’s final round included five birdies and 10 pars. Coming in runner-up was Grant Roscich (2024) of Glen Ellyn, Ill., who finished the tournament at 10-over-par 154.
Rounding out the top three in the Boys 12-13 Division were Ryan Banas (2023) of Winnetka, Ill., and Andrew Lim (2023) of Naperville, Ill., who each carded a tournament total of 11-over-par 155.
In the Boys 10-11 Division, Matthew Lim (2026) of Naperville, Ill., earned his first win of the 2018 season after carded a tournament total of 39-over-par 183. Coming in runner-up was Anderson Palm (2025) of Western Springs, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 48-over-par 192 total.
In the Girls 12-13 Division, Ella Greenberg (2023) of Rockford, Ill., carded a 9-over-par 153 tournament total to finish four strokes ahead of the second place finisher. Greenberg’s round final round included four birdies and five pars. Coming in runner-up was Lexi Schulman (2023) of Vernon Hills, Ill., who finished the tournament at 13-over-par 157.
In the Girls 10-11 Division, Lisa Copeland (2026) of Naperville, Ill., earned top honors after carding two consistent rounds of 5-over-par 77, which gave her a tournament total of 10-over-par 154. Copeland’s final round included three birdies and eight pars.
