Results: Players Challenge #2 at Links at Carillon

PLAINFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Junior Golf Association’s Players Challenge #2 at Links at Carillon wrapped up after 36 holes of competitive golf. In the Boys Division, Mike Wales (2020) of Peoria, Ill., carded a 1-under-par 143 tournament total to take home top honors. In the Girls Division, Sunbi Kwon (2021) of Orland Park, Ill., finished atop the leaderboard after carding a 14-over-par 158 tournament total.

The Players Challenge #2 @ Links at Carillon was a 36-hole, Stroke Play competition hosted at the Links at Carillon on June 4-5. The field featured 77 junior golfers ages 14-18. The Boys Division played the par 72 course from 6,712 yards, while the Girls Division played the course from 5,762 yards.

The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.

Wales carded a 4-under-par 68 during the final round, moving is tournament total to 1-under-par 143. His final round included one eagle and three birdies. This was Wales’s first IJGA victory.

Coming in runner-up was Marcus Smith (2020) of Rockford, Ill., who carded an even-par 144 tournament total. In a tie for third were Evan Myers (2019) of Northbrook, Ill., and Robert Beaubien Jr. (2019) of Barrington, Ill., who each finished the tournament with a 3-over-par 147 total. Rounding out the top five was Tommy Clark (2020) of Hinsdale, Ill., and Zachary Phelps (2021) of New Lenox, Ill., who each carded a 6-over-par 150 tournament total.

In the Girls Division, Kwon finished the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 4-over-par 79. Kwon’s final round included two birdies and nine pars. This was her first IJGA victory.

Coming in runner-up was Nicole Hansen (2018) of Bloomingdale, Ill., who carded a 17-over-par 161 tournament total. Rounding out the top three was Gillian Filer (2019) of Clarendon Hills, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 22-over-par 166 tournament total.
