YORKVILLE, Ill. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Whitetail Ridge Open concluded after 36-holes of competitive golf. In the Boys Division, TJ Barger (2021) of Bloomington, Ill., carded a 3-under-par tournament total to take home champion honors. In the Girls Division, Shannyn Vogler (2022) of Sherrard, Ill., took champion honors.
The Whitetail Ridge Open was a 36 hole, Stroke Play competition. The field featured 99 junior golfers ages 12-18 from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. The Boys Division played the par 71 Whitetail Ridge GC from 6,560 yards, while the Girls Division played the course from 5,859 yards.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
Barger carded back-to-back under-par rounds. He opened the tournament with a 1-under-par 70 and followed it up with a 2-under-par 69. Barger carded eight birdies during the 36-hole event. This was Barger’s first MAJGT victory.
Coming in runner-up was Jack Wiktor (2021) of River Forest, Ill., who carded a 1-under-par 141 tournament total. Tied for third after each finishing the tournament with a 2-over-par 144 total were Sean Markham (2020) of Barrington, Ill., and Matthew James (2019) of Orland Park, Ill. Rounding out the top five were Will Troy (2020) of Naperville, Ill.; Ian Roach (2020) of Hennepin, Ill.; and Joe Bonelli (2021) of Elmhurst, Ill., who each finished the tournament with a 3-over-par 145.
In the Girls Division, Vogler carded a 1-under-par 70 during the first round and a 3-under-par 68 during the final round to hold her lead and take home champion honors with a 4-under-par 138 total. This is Vogler’s third MAJGT victory, her other victories coming in 2018 at the Autumn Open and the North Shore Open.
In second place was Maria Stephens (2021) of Volo, Ill., who carded a 9-over-par 151. Rounding out the top three were Ella Greenberg (2023) of Rockford, Ill., Rachel Kauflin (2020) of Wauwatosa, Wis., and Jessica Guiser (2024) of Harland, Wis., after they each carded a 10-over-par 152 tournament total.
The MAJGT will take a short break before kicking off the summer season at the Donald Ross Classic on June 5-6.
