LAKE GENEVA, Wis.— 70 boys and 16 girls competed in the two-round MAJGT tournament at Hawk’s View Golf Club on June 17-18. Ryan Augustine (71-72–143) of Batavia won first place for the boys in a two-hole playoff and Campbell Ray (75-70–145), beat the rest of the girls’ field by three strokes.

 

THE TOURNAMENT:

  • MAJGT at Hawk’s View Golf Club is a 36-hole stroke play event spanning two days. The contest is for juniors ages 12-18. 
  • Par for the course was 72. The boys played the course 6,756 yards. For the girls, the course yardage was 5,733.

 

THE BOYS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Augustine went one under par in round one and even with par during round two for a two-round score of one under. He went into an on-course playoff for first place, which he ended on the second hole by making a long putt for birdie.
  • Luke Walker (73-70–143) of Bradenton, Florida, also finished with a two-round score of one under par. He took second after going one over in round one and two under in round two.
  • Kevin Feng (70-74–144) finished in third place with a two-round score of par. The Newark, Delaware, resident went two under in round one and two over in round two.
  • Kildeer native Trenton Kurtz (75-70–145) moved into fourth place after posting a score of two under par during round two. This combined with a round one score of three over par for a 36-hole score of one over.
  • Bryson VanHoutte (73-72–145) of Geneseo also finished the tournament at one over par, taking fifth. He put up rounds of one over and even.

 

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Six players made an eagle during the tournament. Cohen Bloomfield, Feng, and Lucas Shin all eagled hole seven, a par five. Joey Luna eagled hole number nine, also a par five. Seamus Purcell eagled the par four hole four and Joshua Lee eagled the par four hole eight.
  • Shin and Walker each made eight total birdies, leading the field. Quin Adams, Andrew Chen, Charlie Kasten, Carter Lalich, and Ian Metzger each followed with seven birdies through two rounds.
  • Maddux Quick and Henry Samulak each made par on 29 of the 36 holes.
  • Chen and Gavin Hultman each had a streak of three straight birdies during round two. Chen’s was on holes seven through nine and Hultman’s was on holes six through eight.
  • Jake Guse went from hole four in round one through hole 12 in round two without a bogey, a 27-hole streak. 

 

THE GIRLS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Ray went two over in round two to move into first place. This combined with a round one score of five over for a total of plus seven.
  • Lindsey Huang (80-74–154) of Northbrook went eight over in round one and two over in round two. She took second with a 36-hole of ten over.
  • Emiko Chichester (80-74–154) also had rounds of eight over and two over. The Highland Park resident took third with a two-round score of ten over.
  • Palatine’s Keira Brazeau (79-76–155) finished in fourth place after finishing at 11 over par. Her round one score was seven over and her round two score was four over.
  • Gigi Zera (76-81–157) of Glenview rounded out the top five with rounds of four over par and nine over par. Her two-round score came out to 13 over par.

 

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Brazeau and Huang led the field with four total birdies. Alia Brazeau, Chichester, Delaney Medlyn, Ray, Madeline Trannel, and Zera each made three total birdies.
  • Ray made a par on 25 of the 36 holes. Chichester, Huang, and Lauren Gauss each made 22 total pars.
  • Lily Wang made back-to-back birdies on holes nine and ten during round two.
  • Ray went 11 straight holes bogey-free. Medlyn went 10 straight holes bogey-free.
