MUNDELEIN, Ill.— 67 juniors competed in the MAJGT Girls’ Junior Amateur at Pine Meadow Golf Club on June 24. Campbell Ray (69) of Long Grove won the tournament by four strokes, going three under par in round one. Round two of the tournament was canceled due to weather.

 

THE TOURNAMENT:

  • The 2024 MAJGT Girls’ Junior Amateur consisted of 18 holes at Pine Meadow Golf Club. The contest featured junior girls ages 12-18. 
  • Par for the course was 72. The total yardage for 18 holes was 5,817.

 

THE LEADERBOARD:

  • Ray’s score of three under included three birdies on the front nine. She did not record a single score higher than par, making pars on the other 15 holes.
  • Grace Leber (73) of Wilmette took second place with a score of one over par. She made five total birdies, including one on hole 18 to pull herself into the runner-up position.
  • Lockport native Gianna White (74) rounded out the top three with a score of two over par. She put up two birdies and 13 pars over the course of the round.
  • Taylor Miller (75) of Bolingbrook finished in fourth place with a score of three over par. She birdied holes 18 and seven.
  • Hailing from North Riverside, Mayan Covarrubias (75) also finished three over par. She was consistent, parring 15 of the 18 holes.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Leber led the field in birdies made with five. Ray, Grace Gilbert, and Victoria Shao each had three birdies. 
  • Covarrubias and Ray each had 15 pars. White had 13 pars and Allyson Duan, Ava Johnsen, and Anna Lee each made 12.
  • Ray finished a complete round bogey-free. Covarrubias had nine straight bogeyless holes.
