BARTLETT, Ill.— 67 boys and 15 girls competed in the two-round Players Challenge at Bartlett Hills Golf Club on July 8-9. Tyler Short (80-68–148) of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, won the boys division and Lily Wang (76-77–153) of Buffalo Grove finished in first for the girls.

 

THE TOURNAMENT:

  • The Players Challenge at Bartlett Hills is a 36-hole stroke play event spanning two days. The contest is for juniors ages 14-18. 
  • Par for the course was 71. The course played 6,473 yards for the boys and 5,629 yards for the girls.

 

THE BOYS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Short shot nine over par in round one before improving by 12 strokes in round two to shoot three under par. He finished with a two-round score of six over par.
  • Brendan Carroll (79-70–149) of Elmhurst took second place with a two-round score of seven over par. He shot eight over in round one and improved to one under in round two.
  • Monticello’s Maddux Quick (76-75–151) rounded out the top three after putting up rounds of five over par and four over par. His 36-hole score came to nine over par.
  • Camden Sarallo (76-76–152) shot five over par in both rounds. The Elgin resident took fourth with a two-round score of ten over.
  • Taig Bhathal (76-76–152) of Lake in the Hills also shot five over in both rounds. He took fifth place with a final score of ten over.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Sarallo led the field in birdies made with six total. Bhathal, Short, and Danny Burden each made five birdies.
  • Seamus Purcell parred 24 of the 36 holes. Carroll and Quick each made 23 pars.
  • Carroll went 13 holes in a row bogey-free.

 

THE GIRLS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Wang shot five over par in round one and six over par in round two. She won by one stroke with a two-round score of 11 over par.
  • Anna Lee (79-75–154) of Vernon Hills was the runner-up with a two-round score of 12 over par. She went eight over in round one and four over in round two.
  • Palatine’s Merritt Bell (83-78–161) took the third spot on the leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 19 over par. She shot 12 over par in round one and seven over par in round two.
  • Mina Shyam (85-82–167) won fourth place with rounds of 14 over and 11 over. The Naperville resident’s scores combined for a 36-hole score of 25 over par.
  • Kayla Beu (86-84–170) of St. Charles took fifth place. She had a two-round score of 28 over par with rounds of 15 and 13 over.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Bell eagled the par five hole 16 during round two. She was the only player in the field of boys and girls to make an eagle.
  • Wang made five total birdies through two rounds of play.
  • Lee made 25 pars through 36 holes.
  • Bell birdied back-to-back holes on holes 15 and 16 in round two.
  • Lee went nine straight holes bogey-free to finish out round two.
