WEST CHICAGO, Ill.— 109 boys and 45 girls competed in the two-round IJGA-CDGA Junior Amateur at Prairie Landing Golf Course on July 11-12. Clay Heilman (68-64–132) of South Elgin  won the boys division and Sydney Terada (68-69–137) of Lake Barrington took first place for the girls.

 

THE TOURNAMENT:

  • The IJGA-CDGA Junior Amateur at Prairie Landing is a 36-hole stroke play event spanning two days. The contest is for juniors ages 14-18. 
  • Par for the course was 72. The course played 6,621 yards for the boys and 5,613 yards for the girls.

 

THE BOYS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Heilman went four under in round one before going eight under in round two to win with a two-day score of 12 under par. He made a birdie putt on hole 18 to avoid a playoff for first place.
  • Alex Lee (69-64–133) of Northbrook took second place with rounds of three under and eight under. His two-round score was 11 under par, which put him ahead of third by five strokes.
  • Huntley native Liam Lodding (69-69–138) placed third with back-to-back rounds of three under par. He finished at six under.
  • Logan Keeter (69-69–138) also finished at six under par with a score of three under in each round. The Northbrook resident took fourth place.
  • Connor Woodin (67-71–138)) of Arlington Heights was finished at six under as well, taking fifth overall. He had rounds of five under and one under.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Barrett Rennell made two eagles during the tournament. They were on holes 10 and 18 during round two.
  • Antonio Gutierrez and Lee each totaled 14 birdies through 36 holes. Keeter made 12 birdies and Heilman made 11.
  • Aarnav Patel made a par on 28 of the 26 holes. Cole Beto, Dylan Trahan, and Elias Weidemanis each made 27 pars.
  • Gutierrez made five straight birdies from holes four through eight during round two.
  • Nolan Adamczyk made four straight to open round one.
  • After hole one of round one, Heilman did not make a single bogey for the remaining 36 holes.

 

THE GIRLS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Terada shot four under in round one and three under in round two. She won by six strokes with a 36-hole score of seven under par.
  • Glenview native Gigi Zera (71-72–143) took second with scores of one under par and even. Her two-round score was one under par.
  • Ava Alimissis (73-71–142) of Long Grove earned third place with rounds of one over and one under. These combined for a final score of even.
  • Sycamore’s Brianna Chamoun (75-70–145) took fourth place with a score of three over in round one and two under in round two. She was one over through 36 holes.
  • Nicole McGuire (75-70–145) of Bloomingdale rounded out the top five, also shooting three over and two under for a final score of one over.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Grace Leber and Terada each had 10 total birdies. Jennifer March had eight.
  • Bridget Craig parred 31 of the 36 holes. Caris Lee made 27 pars.
  • Sonam Konanahalli went on a five birdie streak, making a birdie on holes 17 and 18 in round one and holes one, two, and three in round two. Isabella Versetto birdied four straight holes from hole two through five in round one.
  • Alimissis and Lee each went 17 straight holes bogey-free.
