NAPERVILLE, Ill.— Players from three divisions competed in the two-round Summer Junior Elite at Springbrook Golf Club on July 15-16. Johnny Santucci (68-74–142) from Park Ridge won the Boys 12-15 division, Sophia Chen (78-76–154) of Willowbrook took first for the Girls 12-15 division, and Lake Forest’s John Haas (72-76–148) won the Boys 10-11 division.

 

THE TOURNAMENT:

  • The Summer Junior Elite at Springbrook is a 36-hole stroke play event spanning two days. The contest is for juniors ages 10-15. 
  • Par for the course was 72. For the boys aged 12-15 the course played 6,021 yards. For the girls aged 12-15 and the boys aged 10-11 the course played 5,125 yards.

 

THE BOYS 12-15 LEADERBOARD:

  • Santucci made five first round birdies to put up a score of four under in round one. This combined with a second round score of two over for a 36-hole score of two under.
  • Braden Chung (72-73–145) of Naperville took second place for the boys with a two-round score of one over par. He shot even in round one and one over in round two.
  • Hinsdale resident Constantine Verros (73-73–146) went one over in each round. He took third place with a two-round score of two over.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Chung led the field with eight total birdies. Santucci put up seven birdies and Brayden Grummer and Mac Hrankowsky each made six.
  • William Comiskey made a par on 26 of the 36 holes.
  • Chung birdied five straight holes from hole seven to hole 11 in round one.
  • William Hare went 21 straight holes bogey-free.

 

THE GIRLS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Chen made three birdies and finished the tournament at 10 over par. She went six over in round one and four over in round two.
  • Taylor Miller (77-79–156) of Bolingbrook was the runner-up after shooting five over in round one and seven over in round two. She finished at 12 over par.
  • Naperville resident Mina Shyam (81-76–157) took third with a 36-hole score of 13 over par. She shot nine over in round one and four over in round two.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Shyam made six birdies through two rounds. Amelia Gambla and Lauren Jeon each made four birdies.
  • Chen parred 22 of the 36 holes and Miller parred 20.
  • Abigail Gizewicz, Miller, and Shyam each made back-to-back birdies during the tournament.
  • Chen went eight holes in a row without a bogey.

 

THE BOYS (10-11) LEADERBOARD:

  • Haas finished out round two with seven straight pars to win by 10 with a two-round score of four over par. He went even in round one and four over in round two.
  • Joey Perrino (78-80–158) of Glen Ellyn took second place after putting up rounds of six over par and eight over par. His two-round score was 14 over par.
  • Carter Lang (77-82–159) finished in third place with rounds of five over and 10 over. The Clarendon Hills resident posted a 36-hole score of 15 over par.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Haas led the field with four birdies overall. Perrino made three birdies.
  • Haas parred 24 of the 36 holes. Perrino made 22 pars and Lang, Luca Marinescu, and Chase Perez each made 19.
  • Perrino made back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12 during round two.
  • Haas went 12 straight holes bogey-free from holes five through 16 during round one.
