CARY, Ill. — 69 boys and 17 girls competed in the two-round MAJGT tournament at Foxford Hills Golf Club on July 29-30. Eric Brown (67-70–137) of Lake in the Hills won first place for the boys with a two-round score of seven under par and Lily Wang (73-75–148) of Buffalo Grove won for the girls with a 36-hole score of four over par.

 

THE TOURNAMENT:

  • MAJGT at Foxford Hills Golf Club is a 36-hole stroke play event spanning two days. The contest is for juniors ages 12-18.
  • Par for the course was 72. The boys played the course 6,814 yards. For the girls, the course yardage was 5,746.

 

THE BOYS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Brown birdied hole 17 and parred hole 18 during round two to force a playoff for first place. He had nine total birdies and just one bogey in each round for a two-round score of seven under par.
  • Michael Hahn (65-72–137) also finished the tournament at seven under and took second place overall. The Lake Forest resident posted a score of seven under in round one, where he made eight birdies, and even in round two.
  • Sam Wilda (68-72–140) of Western Springs rounded out the podium with rounds of four under par and even. His two-round score was four under par.
  • Arlington Heights resident Nico Haber (74-69–143) posted a 36-hole score of one under par to take fourth place. He shot two over in round one and then fired off a score of three under in round two.
  • Ryan Andrews (73-71–144) finished in fifth place with scores of one over par and one under par. The Libertyville native finished with a two-round score of par.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Andrews and Seamus Purcell each had an eagle on the par five hole number six during the tournament. Andrews eagled the hole during round two and Purcell eagled the hole in round one.
  • Hahn led the field with 12 total birdies. Brady Cross had 10 birdies and Brown and Wilda each had nine.
  • Haber parred 27 of the 36 holes. Ryan Augustine, Eric Brown, and Justin Brown each made 25 pars.
  • Cross birdied four straight holes from hole nine through 12 during round one.
  • Eric Brown went 28 straight holes without making a bogey from hole three during round one through hole 12 during round two.

 

THE GIRLS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Wang’s score of four under par included rounds of one over and three over. She won by five strokes and had five total birdies.
  • Anna Lee (75-78–153) of Vernon Hills finished in second place after shooting three over par in round one and six over par in round two. Her 36-hole score came to nine over par.
  • Sycamore resident Brianna Chamoun (78-76–154) took third place with a two-round score of 10 over par. She went six over in her first round and four over in her second round.
  • Delaney Medlyn (75-80–155) finished with a score of 11 over par for two rounds with single round scores of three over and eight over. The Cary resident took fourth place overall.
  • Alia Brazeau (80-79–159) finished out the top five with rounds of eight over par and seven over par. The Palatine native posted a two-round score of 15 over par.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Brazeau made the most birdies with six total, three in each round. Chamoun and Wang each had five total birdies and Madelyn Duchene had three.
  • Lee made a par on 25 of the 36 total holes. Medlyn and Wang each had 23 total pars and Angel Bao Linh Nguyen had 21 total pars.
  • Wang made three birdies in a row on holes 15, 16, and 17 during round one.
  • Wang opened the tournament with nine straight bogey-free holes.
