HOMEWOOD, Ill. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Donald Ross Classic concluded after two rounds of competitive golf. In the Boys Division, Aidan Lafferty (2019) of Downers Grove, Ill., earned the top spot on the leaderboard after finishing two shots better than the runner-up. In the Girls Division, Megan Furtney (2019) of South Elgin, Ill., carded a 4-under-par 136 tournament total to earn champion honors.
The Donald Ross Classic was a 36-hole, Stroke Play competition contested at the par 70 Ravisloe CC in Homewood, Ill. The field featured 126 junior golfers ages 12-18 from Florida, Illinois and Indiana. The Boys Division played the course from 6,322 yards, while the Girls Division played from 5,702 yards.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
Lafferty carded a final round of 4-under-par 66, which included five birdies and 12 pars. His final round brought his tournament total to a 2-over-par 142 total. This is Lafferty’s first MAJGT victory, earlier this year he came in second at the Sanctuary Open.
Coming in second was Jack Paeglow (2020) of DeKalb, Ill., who carded a 4-over-par 144 tournament total. Rounding out the top-five were Nolan Doherty (2019) of Arlington Heights, Ill., Mac McClear (2019) of Hinsdale, Ill., and Marcus Smith (2020) of Rockford, Ill., who each carded a 5-over-par 145 tournament total.
In the Girls Division, Furtney carded rounds of 1-under-par 69 and 3-under-par 67 for a tournament total of 4-under-par 136. Her final round included five birdies. This is Furtney’s sixth MAJGT victory.
In a three-way tie for second were Adrienne Rohwedder (2019) of Prospect Heights, Ill., Emma Carpenter (2019) of DeKalb, Ill., and Emily Duan (2022) of Buffalo Grove, Ill., who each carded a 13-over-par 153 tournament total.
The MAJGT heads to Lemont, Ill., for the Championship at Ruffled Feathers on June 11-13.
