NEW LENOX, Ill. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Sanctuary Open concluded Sunday after two days of competitive golf. In the Boys Division, Ethan Farnam (2017) of Crystal Lake, Ill., carded a final round 2-under-par 70 to finish with champion honors. In the Girls Division, Brianne Bolden (2019) of Mokena, Ill., took home hardware after finishing atop the leaderboard.
The 2017 Sanctuary Open was a two day, stroke play event featuring 92 junior golfers from Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Wisconsin. The Boys Division played the par 72 course from 6,917 yards, while the Girls Division played the course from 5,786 yards.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
Farnam, who took home his second MAJGT victory, finished the event with an even-par 144. His final round included four birdies and 12 pars. Farnam carded a 2-over-par 74 opening round.
Two shots back was Tommy Dunsire (2018) of Naperville, Ill., carded a 2-over-par 146 tournament total. In third was Brian Sterling (2019) of Mokena, Ill., who finished the event with a 4-over-par 148 total. In fourth place was Gabe Larson (2019) of Hinsdale, Ill., with a two-day total of 5-over-par 149. Rounding out the top 5 was Tyler Bussert (2018) of Port Byron, Ill., and Jackson Bussell (2019) of Lincolnshire, Ill., who each carded a 6-over-par 150 tournament total. A notable final round of 2-under-par 70 was carded by Ryan Savarie (2019) of Winnetka, Ill.
Bolden carded a 1-under-par 71 opening round followed by a 1-over-par 73 final round to bring her tournament total to even-par 144. Her final round included four birdies and 10 pars. This is Bolden’s first MAJGT victory.
Coming in runner-up was Grace Curran (2019) of New Lenox, Ill., who carded a 1-over-par 145 tournament total. Curran fired an impressive final round of 4-under-par 68. Rounding out the top 3 was Hannah Kilbane (2019) of Orland Park, Ill., who finished the event at 12-over-par 156. Notable final rounds in the Girls Division included a pair of 1-under-par 71s from Sohpia Lau (2018) of Glenview, Ill., and Mara Flaherty (2019) of Naperville, Ill.
The MAJGT heads to Zion, Ill., for the Shepherd’s Crook Open April 29-30, 2017.
