CHICAGO, Ill. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Championship at Harborside concluded Thursday after three days of competitive golf. Tyler Bussert (2018) Port Byron, Ill., took champion honors in the Boys Division, while KiLynn Gold (2017) of Ingleside, Ill., took top honors in the Girls Division.
The Championship at Harborside was a 54-hole, stroke play event contested on the par 70 Harborside International – Starboard Course. The field consisted of 71 junior golfers from Illinois, Indiana, South Dakota, New Jersey, and Wisconsin. The Boys Division played the course from 6,798 yards and the Girls Division played from 5,736 yards.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
Bussert carded the low round of the tournament which was a 2-under-par 68 during the second round. Finishing the event at 2-over-par 213, Bussert carded rounds of 72-68-73 to finish atop the leaderboard. This is his first MAJGT victory, is best finish coming earlier this year at the Fox Bend Open where he finished T2.
Coming in runners-up in the Boys Division after each carding 7-over-par 218 tournament totals were: Peter Tyler Po (2018) of Ridgewood, NJ., Cameron Karney (2018) of Crystal Lake, Ill., Jason Folker (2017) of Lake Forest, Ill., and Michael Seaman (2018) of Lake Forest, Ill.
In the Girls Division, Gold defeated runner-up Mara Flaherty (2019) of Naperville, Ill., in a sudden death play-off. The girls played No. 18 twice, Gold won the play-off with a par on the second hole to take home her first MAJGT win. The girls each carded a 27-over-par 238 three-day total.
Rounding out the top three was Elizabeth Ducan (2018) of Sioux Falls, SD., with a tournament total of 29-over-par 240.
The next stop on the MAJGT 2017 season is the Highlands of Elgin, for the Highlands of Elgin Classic.
