KENOSHA, Wis. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Kenosha Classic concluded Friday after two days of competitive golf. In the Boys Division, Mark Laken (2017) of Kenosha, Wis., took top honors, while in the Girls Division, Caroline Smith (2020) of Inverness, Ill., took champion honors. This event also featured a College Division, which was won by Lena Benjakul of Lake Forest, Ill.

The MAJGT Kenosha Classic was a two-day, 36 hole stroke play event which featured 101 golfers ages 12-22 from Illinois and Wisconsin. The Boys Division played the par 70 course from 6,530 yards. Both the Girls and College Divisions played the course from 5,680 yards.

The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.

Laken carded a bogey-free opening round of 3-under-par 67 to take an early lead at Kenosha Country Club. Laken finished the tournament with a 2-over-par 142 tournament total to take home his first MAJGT victory in 2017.

Coming in runner-up was John (Jack) Blair (2019) of Wauwatosa, Wis., who carded a 4-over-par tournament total. In third was Lowell Weil, III (2018) of Lake Forest, Ill., who carded a two-day total of 5-over-par 145. Rounding out the top 5 were Ben Prisching (2017) of McHenry, Ill., and Blake Wisdom (2019) of Lake Geneva, Wis., who each finished the tournament with a 6-over-par 146 total.

In the Girls Division, Smith carded a two-day total of 3-over-par 143 to take home her first MAJGT victory. Her previous best finish at the Kenosha Classic was in 2016, where she took third.

Coming in runner-up was Sarah Busey (2017) of Racine, Wis., who carded a two-day total of 13-over-par 153. Rounding out the top 3 was Molly Lyne (2020) of Cary, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 15-over-par 155 total.

In the College Division, Benjakul carded a 33-over-par 173 to take home her first win of the 2017 MAJGT season.

Next the MAJGT heads to South Bend, Ind., for the Classic at Notre Dame.
