We regret to inform you all that the MAJGT Open this weekend at Wilmette GC has been cancelled. While we do not make a habit of making our decisions on playability of events based on weather forecasts (as we all know they are not always accurate), we feel in this case that is the best course of action. We have monitored the weather closely all week and it has not improved, in fact just the opposite. With the likelihood of rain and very high winds, combined with real feel temperatures that are projected to be well below freezing, we feel that the conditions will not be playable and we could be putting our juniors at risk, which is something we are not willing to do.

The IJGA and MAJGT make every effort to conduct all of our events, even if in undesirable conditions. We also typically use every last minute that we can in order for the weather forecast to improve. However, in this situation it does not seem likely that we will be able to administer this event. We wanted to give you as much notice as possible so you had time to adjust your plans for the weekend accordingly.

The MAJGT and Wilmette staffs are currently discussing dates for this event to be rescheduled. Another email will be sent to the field when those dates have been determined. At that point, if you are unable to participate in the rescheduled event, we will issue you a full credit back to your player’s club account that can be used on future tournament registrations.

We appreciate your patience this week as we all hoped for an improved forecast that would allow for playable and safe conditions. We wish we had better news to deliver, but we hope you are able to participate in the rescheduled event. If not, we look forward to seeing you the rest of the season!
