ALGONQUIN, Ill.— 73 boys and 34 girls competed in this past weekend’s two-round MAJGT tournament at Golf Club of Illinois. Glen Ellyn native Owen Coniaris (64-71–135) took home the title for the boys and Courtney Beerheide  (70-72–142) of Arlington Heights took home the trophy for the girls.

 

THE TOURNAMENT:

  • MAJGT at Golf Club of Illinois (GCI) is a 36-hole stroke play event spanning two days. The contest is for juniors ages 12-18.
  • The girls played the course as a par 72 spanning 5,996 yards. For the boys, par was 71 and the course played 6,863 yards.

 

THE BOYS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Coniaris shot a 64, or seven under par, during round one to take command of the leaderboard and shot par during day two to secure his victory.
  • Rayden Tee (68-68–136) of Hoffman Estates shot a 68, which is three below par, in back-to-back rounds. Tee finished as the runner-up for the event with a final score of six below par.
  • Hailing from Elgin, Tyler Samaan (71-71–142) posted back-to-back scores of par to edge out fourth place by one stroke and earn the third place title.
  • Ian Metzger (71-72–143) took fourth place after shooting even with par and one over par. The Rochelle native finished with a two-round score of one over par.
  • Michael Schwarz (75-69–144) of Orland Park, Trenton Kurtz (75-69–144) of Kildeer, Dru Devata (72-72–144) of Clarendon Hills, and Liam Lodding (66-78–144) of Huntley finished in a four-way tie for fifth place. Each finished with a 36-hole score of two over par.

 

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Tee, Daniel Chung, and Kurtz each made an Eagle. Chung and Kurtz’s came on hole 15, a par five, during round two and Tee’s came on hole 16, a par four, during round one.
  • Coniaris made 11 total birdies through two rounds.
  • Metzger made 10 total birdies through two rounds.
  • Lodding made eight total birdies through two rounds.

 

THE GIRLS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Beerheide shot two below par and par in rounds one and two, respectively. She won by one stroke with a two-round score of minus two.
  • Arlington Heights native Jennifer March (72-71–143) took second with scores of par and one below par, finishing at one under par and taking an 11 stroke lead over third.
  • Campbell Ray (78-76–154) of Long Grove rounded out the leaderboard, taking third overall. She posted scores of six above par and four above par for a 36-hole score of ten above par.
  • Oak Brook’s Toral Bhatt (75-80–155) took fourth place for the girls with a score of three over par in round one and eight over par in round two. Her final score was +11.
  • Grace Leber (80-76–156) from Wilmette rounded out the top five. She posted scores of eight over par and four over par to earn a two-round score of 12 over.

 

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Beerheide made seven total birdies through two rounds.
  • March made six total birdies through two rounds.
  • Campbell, Kacie Moon, and Leber each made five total birdies.
