MUNDELEIN, Ill. — 76 boys and 28 girls competed in the two-round MAJGT tournament at Countryside Golf Club’s Prairie Course on July 22-23. Robert Politza (69-31–100) of Lemont won first place for the boys in a 27-hole contest and Sydney Terada (66-71–137) of Lake Barrington won for the girls by six strokes through 36 holes.

 

THE TOURNAMENT:

  • MAJGT at Countryside Golf Club is a 36-hole stroke play event spanning two days. The contest is for juniors ages 12-18. Due to weather, the boys field was only scored for their first 27 holes.
  • Par for the course was 72. The boys played the course 6,757 yards. For the girls, the course yardage was 5,909.

 

THE BOYS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Politza went three under in round one before putting up five birdies during the nine-hole second round. He won the scorecard playoff for first and had a final score of eight under par.
  • Eric Brown (67-33–100) took second after also finishing at eight under. He went five under in round one with six birdies and three under in round two with three birdies.
  • Luke Walker (65-35–100) of Bradenten, Florida, also finished with a 27-hole score of eight under par. He took third after going seven under in round one with eight birdies and one under in round two.
  • Chicago native Jimmy Doherty (67-34–101) took fourth place with a 27-hole score of seven under par. He went five under in round one and two under in round two.
  • Luciano Giangrossi (71-31–102) of Evanston rounded out the top five, going six under through 27 holes. He was one under in round one and finished out the tournament with five straight birdies to go five under on day two.

 

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Joe Calderone, Rylan Frazer, Charlie Gilligan, William Slatkay, and Daniel Wilkison each eagled a par five during the tournament.
  • Giangrossi, Politza, and Walker each made ten total birdies. Brown had nine birdies and Doherty and Matthew Sims each finished with eight.
  • Asher Moon parred 22 of the 27 total holes.
  • Giangrossi had a five hole birdie streak from holes five through nine during round two.
  • Logan Keeter and Jacob Mikula each went 23 straight holes bogey free.

 

THE GIRLS’ LEADERBOARD:

  • Terada finished at seven under par with 11 birdies through two rounds. She went six under in round one and one under in round two.
  • Lily Zicarelli (74-69–143) of Inverness went two over in round one and three under in round two. She took second with a 36-hole of one under.
  • Anna Lee (71-76–147) posted a score of one under for round one and four over in round two. The Vernon Hills resident took third with a two-round score of three over.
  • Palatine’s Keira Brazeau (71-76–147) took fourth place after finishing at three over par as well. Her round one score was one under and her round two score was four over.
  • Mina Shyam (75-73–148) of Naperville rounded out the top five with rounds of three over par and one over par. Her two-round score came out to four over par.

 

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Lindsey Huang eagled the par four hole number 16 during round two.
  • Terada led the field with 11 birdies. Seven of her birdies were in round one.
  • Lee made a par on 29 of the 36 holes. Praise Shim made 26 pars.
  • Amanda Adley and Kendall Humphries-Solis each had a three hole birdie streak. Adley birdied holes six through eight during round two and Humphries-Solis birdied holes five through seven during round two.
  • Zicarelli went 19 holes in a row without making a bogey.
