GENEVA, Ill.—The second round of the 2015 IJGA-CDGA Amateur came to a close Thursday afternoon under sunny and cool conditions. Jordan Less (2016) leads the Boys Division by one stroke after rounds of 70-74. In the Boys Division, Top 30 and ties made the cut for the final round to be held Friday morning at Mill Creek Golf Club. Rainstar Roque (2015) won the Girls Division with rounds of 71-74.
The event features 185 junior golfers ages 14-18 from across the Chicagoland area. The Boys Division is playing from 6,214 yards and the Girls Division played from 5,256 yards. The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members age 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf information clearinghouse.
Less, who was also the leader after the first round, recorded birdies on Nos. 8, 11, and 15 to finish the two days at 2-over-par. Sitting in second is Andrew Abel (2017) who shot an even-par round of 71 with two birdies and two bogeys. In a tie for third are Connor Polender (2018) and Michael Mattas (2016). Polender and Mattas are currently at 4-over-par, two strokes behind Less. Rounding out the top five are Daniel Cole (2016), Grant Gavin (2015), Tony DeLise (2017), Grant Labedz (2016), and Jackson Bussell (2019). All five are three strokes behind Less at 5-over-par.
In the Girls Division, Roque fired a tournament total of 3-over-par 145 to win the two-day event by one over Arushi Singh (2018). Roque’s round included birdies on the par 4, No. 3 and the par 3, No. 13. Singh was consistent over the two days, recording scores of 73-73 for a tournament total of 146. Her second round score featured 14 pars and two birdies. The back-to-back birdies came on the par 4, No. 15 and par 3, No. 16. Rounding out the top three were Reena Sulkar (2017) and Gianna Furrie (2017), who finished the event with a two-day total of 151. Sulkar claimed the trophy after winning in a scorecard playoff.
Tee times for the final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. off of No. 1 at Mill Creek Golf Club.
