BLOOMINTON, ILL. – The Championship at the Den first round came to a close this evening for the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour. Andrew Huber (2016) of Winnetka, Ill., fired a 1-under-par 71 to take a two-shot lead after the first round.
The Championship at the Den is a 54-hole stroke play competition featuring 99 boy junior golfers representing Illinois, Indiana and Iowa. This tournament featured the par-72 Den golf course. The Boys Division played from 6,708 yards.
Huber’s first round consisted of six birdies en route to his 1-under round. Payton Kim (2016) of Palatine, Ill., is in second, two shots off the lead, after carding a 1-over-par 73, followed by Ryan Johnson (2016) of Channahon, Ill., who shot a 2-over-par 74.
“We are thrilled to be returning for the seventh year in a row to the host site of the IHSA State AAA Championship,” said senior director Stephanie Schwartz. “This has been the best weather we have seen at this course during our tenure with calm wind and sunshine throughout the day.”
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
