MUNDELEIN, Ill. – The Illinois Junior Golf Association hosted the first Players Challenge of the 2017 season at Countryside Golf Club – Traditional Course this past weekend. After two days of competitive golf, Mac McClear (2019) of Hinsdale, Ill., took top honors in the Boys Division. In the Girls Division, Haeri Lee (2018) Buffalo Grove, Ill., took home champion honors.
The Players Challenge #1 was a 36-hole, stroke play event competed on the Traditional Course at Countryside Golf Club. The Boys Division played the par 72 course from 6,385 yards and the Girls Division played the course from 5,677 yards.
The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.
In the Boys Division, McClear held on to his first round lead carding an impressive 2-under-par 70 to finish the event with a 2-under-par 142. His five birdies in the final round were enough to help secure his first Players Challenge victory.
Coming in runner-up was Garrett Tighe (2019) of Algonquin, Ill., who carded a 1-over-par 145 tournament total. In third was Jack Paeglow (2020) of DeKalb, Ill., who carded a final round of 1-under-par 71 to move his tournament total to 3-over-par 147. In fourth was Spencer Crowe (2018) of Lake Forest, Ill., carded a 7-over-par 151 tournament total. Rounding out the top 5 was Josh Lundmark (2019) of Hinsdale, Ill., who finished the tournament with an 8-over-par 154.
In the Girls Division, Lee carded a tournament total of 11-over-par 155 to take home her first Players Challenge victory. She carded rounds of 79 and 76 to secure her first place finish.
Coming in runner-up was Hanna Tanaka (2019) of Glenview, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 14-over-par 158 total. Rounding out the top 3 was Adrienne Rohwedder (2019) of Prospect Heights, Ill., who carded a tournament total of 15-over-par 159.
The next Players Challenge is scheduled for June 15-16 at Highland Woods GC in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
