ITASCA, Ill. – The 38th Chick Evans Junior Amateur Girls Division Match Play rounds concluded Thursday. The Championship Match was won by Adrienne Rohwedder (2019) of Prospect Heights, Ill.
This is the 38th Annual Chick Evans Jr Am Championship features 187 junior golfers from throughout the state of Illinois ages 12 to 18. This event is a 36-hole, Stroke Play event where players are attempting to qualify for the Match Play rounds. The Boys Division will be cut to the low 32 boys for up to five rounds of match play, while the Girls Division will be cut to the low 16 for up to four rounds of match play. The Boys Division is playing the par 72 Itasca CC from 6,814 yards, while the Girls Division played the course from 5,791.
The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.
ROUND OF 16 HIGHLIGHTS
- Match 1 – Mara Flaherty (2019) of Naperville, Ill., and Sophia Sulkar (2022) of Barrington Hills, Ill. – Flaherty, who was 1 up at the turn, fell to Sulkar in a match that took 20 holes to determine a winner.
- Match 2 – Trinity Corwin (2018) of Schaumburg, Ill., and Kait Natividad (2020) of Yorkville, Ill. – Natividad took an early lead in the match but Corwin battled back to bring it to all-square on No. 14 before going 2-up on No. 18.
- Match 3 – Ali Schrock (2019) of Pontiac, Ill., and Ella Greenberg (2023) of Rockford, Ill. – This match ended on No. 15 with Schrock defeating Greenberg 4 and 3.
- Match 4 – Adrienne Rohwedder (2019) of Prospect Heights, Ill., and Alaina Bowie (2020) of Mahomet, Ill. – Bowie was down 4 thru No. 6 but battled back to bring it to all-square on No. 18, which forced extra holes. Rohwedder defeated Bowie on the 20th
- Match 5 – Stephanie Su (2021) of South Barrington, Ill., and Emily Duan (2022) of Buffalo Grove, Ill. – Duan took the lead early and held on through No. 15 when she went 4-up with three to play.
- Match 6 – Audrey Tir (2021) of Winnetka, Ill., and Sunbi Kwon (2021) of Orland Park, Ill. – The match was all-square through No. 4 before Kwon took the lead, ultimately defeating Tir 5 and 3.
- Match 7 – Lizzie Anderson (2022) of Lockport, Ill., and Katelyn David (2019) of St. Charles, Ill. – David brought the match back to all-square on No. 15, after Anderson had held the lead for most of the round, before going 1-up on No. 18 to defeat Anderson.
- Match 8 – Riley Sullivan (2018) of St. Charles, Ill., and Molly Lyne (2020) of Cary, Ill. – Lyne took the lead early in the match, ultimately defeating Sullivan 5 and 3.
QUARTER-FINALS HIGHLIGHTS
- Match 1 – Sulkar and Corwin – The match was all-square at the turn but Corwin took the lead through No. 16 before the match returned to all-square. Corwin defeated Sulkar on No. 18 by going 1-up in the match.
- Match 2 – Schrock and Rohwedder – Rohwedder held the lead for the entire match, which lead to her defeating Schrock 2 and 1.
- Match 3 – Duan and Kwon – Duan carded three birdies on the front nine which allowed her to finish the match on No. 12, where she went 7-up with 6 left to play.
- Match 4 – David and Lyne – Lyne took the lead on No. 12, ultimately defeating Davin 4 and 2.
SEMI-FINALS HIGHLIGHTS
- Match 1 – Corwin and Rohwedder – An eagle on the par 5, No. 13 gave Rohwedder a 7 and 5 victory over Corwin.
- Match 2 – Duan and Lyne – This match was forced into extra holes after an all-square score on No. 18. The match ended on the 20th hole with Lyne defeating Duan.
CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH RECAP
Lyne and Rohwedder went head-to-head in the championship match. The two remained all-square thru No. 4, before Rohwedder went 1-up, but not for long. The match returned to all-square on No. 6 and remained that way until No. 13; when again, Rohwedder went 1-up. After returning to all-square on No. 14, and remaining that way for the next two holes, Lyne carded a par on No. 17 to go 1-up for the first time in the match. The match returned to all-square on No. 18, which forced extra holes. The match was ultimately decided on the 23rd hole, where Rohwedder was determined the winner.
